Treatment of Molluscum Contagiosum

Molluscum contagiosum is a condition that causes papules and nodules to appear on the skin. It is common in children, typically between the ages of 2 and 5, but can also affect teenagers and adults. 

To prevent the spread of the virus, avoid scratching and contact of the affected area (skin-to-skin) with others or through towels, sponges, bathing, swimming pools, etc. 

Molusderm 10% Potassium Hydroxide Rinse-Off Skin Solution is a highly alkaline, corrosive product with a cauterizing action that acts on the skin’s surface by denaturing the protein substances in the tissues.

Apply the product once a day, unless otherwise directed by your doctor. Once applied to the lesions, allow to dry for 1 to 2 minutes, then rinse. Apply Molusderm to the lesion perpendicularly with the tip of the brush without touching healthy skin. 

Repeat the application daily until redness, irritation, or inflammation appears at the base of the lesion, which normally occurs 4 to 6 days later. At that point, you should stop treatment and no longer apply it to that lesion. 

Inflammation is a sign that the molluscum contagiosum is going to disappear, which will happen within the next 2 to 5 weeks. You can continue daily application on lesions where inflammation has not occurred until it appears. 

Do not apply Molusderm to the same lesion for more than 10 consecutive days. If you forget to apply it one day, do not apply it twice the next day.
